What is the purpose of a Move Coordinator?
Who are these people and what exactly do they do?
The moving industry, like many industries has a lot of industry slang, and industry specific terms. One of the terms that is often mis-understood is what is a move coordinator? It is not uncommon for someone moving, to not know where to start when organizing their move. The purpose of a Move coordinator is to know exactly where to start and how to get you from point A to point B. They may ask a lot of questions and will provide you with all the information you need or want, walking you through the process from beginning to end. A move coordinators purpose is to be a first point of contact, overseeing and managing the timing and booking of your move. Think of them like your very own “moving coach.”
It all starts with the information
It can be overwhelming at first, as there are so many questions that start floating around your head when initializing a move. It may not seem important to know whether you own a lot of books, or how many and how big all your flat screen TV’s are, but these are all things that your movers need to know in order to give you a smooth and stress free moving experience. The purpose of a move coordinator is to help you understand things such as: What can your crew pack, and what can they not legally pack? What time will your crew be arriving on loading day? Depending on where you are moving to, when can you expect delivery? While these are only a few of the questions anyone moving may have, the purpose of your move coordinator is to get you answers, and help guide you through the moving process.
While it may not seem like a big deal to know whether your home is accessible by a semi truck, it is extremely important for your moving crew to know. The purpose of a move coordinator is to flush these types of things out so that they can pass along vital knowledge to the moving crew to help set them up for success, and ensure that they have the appropriate equipment for the job. The purpose of a move coordinator is to also ensure that any extra services that are required for your move are set up in advance of your move. For instance, if you have a large glass table top, simply packing that into a box may not be the best idea. The best way for that to travel may be to crate it. These are the types of arrangements that your move coordinator would make.
Booking ALL THE THINGS
The purpose of your move coordinator is to help ensure that everyone is on the same page. While a local move may only involve one company, a long distance move may involve as many as 3 or 4 companies at various points in the moving process. Your move coordinator will serve to ensure that everyone is on the same page, so that your move flows smoothly.
Depending on your move, third party companies may be involved throughout the move process to prepare items for transport, or set them up upon arrival. Your move coordinator will set all that up, so that all you need to do is sit back and relax.
In transit
Your Move Coordinator will stay in contact with you before, during, and after the move with check up calls to ensure that the process is going smoothly. They will answer any concerns or questions that you may have along the way, and work to bring about resolutions to any problems that may have arisen. The purpose of your move coordinator is to do all the leg work in the background so that your job is easy; sit back and relax.
After the move
The purpose of a move coordinator is to ensure that everything finishes up smoothly. They check in with you periodically though out the unpack process to ensure that everything is flowing smoothly. While we strive to complete each move without any damage, it happens from time to time. The purpose of a move coordinator is to work on your behalf to help work towards a resolution. While your move coordinator may not have every answer to every questions, they will work to find one.
