The moving process.
In one of our recent blog posts, we spoke about how to avoid scammers when you’re moving across Canada. For first time movers, or those who don’t move often, the whole move process can go by quickly, and can be a blur. You don’t know what to expect, or what needs to happen for you to be ready.
While there are many movers, they don’t all adhere to common practices of most Nationally affiliated moving companies. When you’re moving across Canada, there are a number of things that should take place, and if they don’t, it is usually a red flag that there could be issues in the future.
Here are the steps of a normal move through Quick Transfer, when moving across Canada.
Survey
This should certainly take place when moving. Moves across Canada are billed based on weight. In order to get a good idea of what your move will cost, your moving company needs to know how much is being moved. Make sure that before you move across Canada, you get a survey done. Survey’s can be done visually in person, through photos, or over the phone. Make sure before you move across Canada, you get a survey done. If one isn’t done, you can imagine how fast your move weight and price tag can shoot up.
Estimate
An estimate is common practice in the moving industry and gives you an idea of what your move will cost. There are a number of different ways to determine the price of your move. Contact one of our sales representatives to see what the best way is for you.
Packing
This is dependent on whether you are planning on packing yourself, or having your mover pack up your things. This is something that you will have to decide on, for your move, and see what makes most sense for you. If you are packing yourself, check out the Moving Countdown Calendar to get a better sense of what should be done by when.
Loading
For your Move across Canada, we have our crew come in and load what you want moved. Your things will get padded and wrapped in our blankets to best protect them. Mattresses will also get bagged to ensure that they remain untouched by dirt and dust throughout the move process.
Delivering
Your things will get delivered to your new residence. The items will get unpadded and unwrapped, and brought inside. We place items in the rooms you want them, as you direct our crew.
Unpacking
This is something that is dependent on what you want. Some people are more comfortable with unpacking themselves, and others want the mover to do it. This is something that you’ll need to discuss with your sales representative, as there is a cost that is associated with this.
This is the overall moving process. It is important to note that sometimes, your accommodations fall through, and you need your items stored. Should you require storage, talk to your sales representative to see what we can offer you through our extensive network of agents nationwide through United Van Lines.
The moving process may look or sound a little different with other nationally affiliated movers, but the concepts are the same. For your move across Canada, all of these things should happen. Make sure that you have someone do a survey before moving your goods. While online estimators can be somewhat close, they typically aren’t as accurate, and don’t get as full a picture as a survey.
The process isn’t overly complicated, but it is imperative that you do your research to better understand your mover. Are they recognized by CAM? What does their BBB profile look like? Are there any complaints? Make sure that you research your mover so that you aren’t scammed. You work hard for what you have. Your things deserve the same, and will get them with Quick Transfer.
